The Steak Dinner

Has anyone ever asked you, “If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you like to meet?”. Oh, how I’ve thought about the answer to that question, it’s varied from Marilyn Monroe, to Madonna, to JFK. It’s impossible to narrow down! There are so many people I’d love the chance to talk to why not make it a gathering of sorts. Enter “The Steak Dinner”.

Picture this: you and 9 guests seated a private table in the restaurant of your choosing. Libations flow freely as you wonder around this very private setting and when you sit down for dinner, you realize that the surrealness you were experiencing just multiplied exponentially.

You sit at a rectangular table set with the necessities to enjoy a fine dinner. The room has a masculine vibe yet sensual at the same time. Simple water and wine glasses, black napkins, a simple arrangement of succulents that are a again, a mix of masculine and feminine. There is no tablecloth, just a gorgeous solid wood table (is that teak?) and the supplest leather chairs you’ve ever sat in.

To your left, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, to your right Ana De Armas. Ana is discussing pop culture with John Hughes. And you see it, the gleam in his eye as if she can be his next muse. You smile thinking how Molly Ringwald would be happy to pass on the torch. As you look across the table you lock eyes with Brad Pitt who briefly looks up from a deep conversation with John F. Kennedy and winks. You suddenly get caught up in a conversation with Elvis, Ryan Tedder and Andy Warhol. And it’s not about music or art, it’s about the upcoming Coronation of King Charles. You feel a tap on your left shoulder and snap back to see Dwyane flashing that Colgate smile at you, his bald head extra shiny. He asks, “Can you please pass the tequila bottle? Adele and I are taking a shot. Want to join us?”. You nod, take the glass, look around one last time and down that Tera Mana as if it was your job. You stand, body humming from excitement, as you greet your guests again and begin to describe the rest of the night. Anything and everything is expected, eat and drink until you can’t anymore, and most of all have fun.

That is “The Steak Dinner.” A gloriously, surreal, and completely unrealistic scenario of epic proportions. But why couldn’t it happen? People sing karaoke in cars and drive around with Jerry Seinfeld, whose show was literally about nothing. Why couldn’t this be a thing? Next time you find yourself thinking about someone you’d like to meet, think “Would I invite them to my steak dinner?”.
