The Covid Chronicles

I wanted to write this blog as I was recovering from Covid last month. I kept putting it off and thought by now it would be too late. Then I thought, why not? That’s why I have this blog right, to share. These are the series, movies, etc. that kept me entertained while I was alone in my room in bed recovering.

1. “From Scratch” (Netflix): OMG I so didn’t see this series coming. I watched the trailer and thought why not? Zoe Zaldana, food, and Italy, all wins in my book. Apparently, it’s inspired by a true story of love and loss. I’m getting goosebumps as I’m writing. It was an emotional roller coaster and a tough one to binge watch. I can’t tell you the last time I cried so much watching a show. I cried not just at the sad parts of this amazing couple’s story, but also the happy and funny moments. I don’t want to give too much away if you haven’t seen it but do yourself a favor and watch it. Just make sure you have a bottle wine and a new tissue box with you.

2. SEAL Team (Paramount+): Not going to lie, the main reason I started watching this show, when it was on CBS, was because of David Boreanaz. If you didn’t know, I’ve loved him since he appeared as Angel on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer way back in the day. I really love this show and was bummed when in season 6 they moved it over to Paramount+. Sadly, I didn’t make the move with them. I know believe me; it pained me! I just couldn’t justify another streaming service. Between Covid and wanting to find out what happened with Max Thieriot’s character, I found my way to justify it. Anyway, best decision ever because you can curse on Paramount+ and what a difference it makes!!! I can’t tell you how much better scenes were when Bravo 1 drops a few F-bombs.

3. Drink Master (Netflix): This is unlike any reality competition show I’ve ever seen. Twelve of the world’s top mixologists compete for $100K and the title of The Ultimate Drink Master through a series of challenges. Oh my, talk about right up my street! If you know me, you’ll know I love me a good cocktail. But these are like next level cocktails, the kind you’d pay $50 dollars for just for the experience. Before you tell me I’m crazy, watch this show and I guarantee you’ll not only gladly drop the $50 bucks, you’ll ask for another round.

4. Enola Holmes 2 (Netflix): These movies are just fun. I’m not always a fan of Millie Bobby Brown but the role as the famous detective’s sister suits her. It’s a nice change of pace from her character on Stranger Things. I love Sherlock Holmes and have been reading his books on and off for years so this new angle of the classic stories was refreshing. I love that she’s trying to do her own thing, out of her brother’s shadow, in such a difficult time for women. But I do think we need a little more Helena Bonham Carter as momma Holmes.

5. The White Lotus (HBO Max): I started it last month and I just finished it. Full transparency, I was not a fan of the season 1. Something about the cast bugged me but when a show starts off with a dead body, you have to ride it out. So that’s what I did with season 2. I found the cast a little more palpable. This season had beautiful locations in Sicily interesting story lines and plot twists. It’s definitely one to watch if you’ve seen the first season or just want to see what became of Stiffler’s mom.
