I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up as a Royal. I never followed every detail about them in the media but I kept up with the headlines. Every little thing you did or didn’t do is reported on and scrutinized. I was horrified when Princess Diana died and the way it happened. I followed Kate and William’s relationship and watched their wedding. But it’s Harry that I’ve
paid more attention to and only because of Megan Markle. I liked her and was a huge fan of Suits. Their relationship seemed to be the change that was needed in the Monarchy.
I watched the Oprah interview and I watched the Netflix docuseries. Spare offers the same information but with more detail, more context. I’ve spoken to many people who feel that what Meg and Haz (their nicknames for each other) have done is terrible. They are selling out their family, airing their dirty laundry. Maybe they are but I think they have the right to. One never knows what really happened and every story has two sides. What Harry writes about is not the most positive for his family and their way of life and if there is any truth to any of it, shame on them all.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and to be honest I found the early part of his life interesting. Who Harry was before Diana died is different than the person he became later and even who became after meeting Meg. The most impressive part of the book is was his time in the military. I knew he was in the army but didn’t know he was a helicopter pilot. What he did and saw during those years impacted him. His time in Africa, South Africa, and Botswana must have been fascinating. He wrote about his relationships with his father, brother, and his Granny – The Queen, which he seemed to have been close to. He even wrote about an unfortunate incident involving his todger and a trip to the North Pole.
If you’re interested in getting a different perspective on one of the most famous couples and families in the world, I recommend the book.
