She's Lost that Lovin' Feelin'

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, not for lack of material. I’ve started to write and deleted the post several times, but today I felt like it was time. Weekend mornings are for enjoying several cups of coffee on the couch. My husband and I settled in by flipping between the Golf Channel and CMT. After grabbing my second cup of coffee, CMT played its number video of the week and to my surprise, Top Gun was coming on next.

That slow beat of the drum, the red skies, and planes fighter jets prepared for take off, I felt a smile on my face and knew I couldn’t change the channel. I can’t remember the last time I watched it and there was no time like this morning. Two and half hours of edited goodness, mixed in with commercials couldn’t keep me away.

Classically delivered lines and an amazing cast, what more can you ask for. It’s easily one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies. He was young, cocky, and you just knew that he was going to make it big in Hollywood. Anthony Edwards is the perfect sidekick or in this case wingman. Val Kilmer, well those teeth, that smile, and with the perfect callsign, Iceman. Who would have thought that several of the, would end up on ER? And let’s talk about the callsigns for a minute. Sheer perfection!

The scenes, so many are memorable ones, but my favorite is definitely the one after the bar scene. Watching Kelly McGillis stroll down the aisle in those sheer black seemed stocking and black blazer over a white top and A-line skirt, sexy as hell. When she turns around and Maverick sees her, hot damn. That scene is what makes movies memorable and makes you want to watch them over and over again. Her face as she smiles and says, “So you’re the one?”. Just beautiful. I would remiss if I didn’t at least mention the beach volleyball scene. I mean really that’s what a mostly male cast is all about. Sweat, abs, and Kenny Loggins.

I can talk about this movie forever and given my love for this movie, I’m probably the last person that hasn’t watched Top Gun: Maverick. Something I plan to rectify this evening. If it’s anything like the original, it’ll easily make it on my all-time favorites list.
