Here we are to the 3rd and final post about the 90’s. Some might say I saved the best for last but you be the judge of that. I wanted to dedicate this last one to the TV shows that made this decade special to me and I will be forever grateful that I got to experience them. So without further ado…
1. My So-Called Life (1994-1995): This series, however short-lived, was everything to me. Two very short seasons was all it took for me to fall in love with not only Claire Danes, as Angela Chase, but Jared Leto as Jordan Catalano. I mean that names just rolls off the tongue, Jordan Catalano. God he was hot, he was such a jerk to Angela but I didn’t care. He liked her but was too cool for school to admit it. Anyway, the show was narrated but Angela and followers her through high sch
ool. I was a sophomore at the time and there was no show on TV that I could relate to more. The show ended with a major cliffhanger. I always wondered what would have happened. Team Brian or Team Jordan?
2. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003): This the OG of classic cult TV show. Buffy was such an amazing show, Joss Whedon really nailed it. There was nothing like it on television at the time. It was the start of what would be a long relationship with a network that go on to change names several time but still offered killer shows. The best part of the show for me was Angel of course. David Boreanaz would go on to live on my Top 5 list forever (for real he still is). I loved his character and would he stood for, what he went through, but mostly I loved his relationship with Buffy. There is nothing negative I can say about this show (except the sister, I really wasn't a fan). I loved the ending and I loved the Angel spinoff. Amazing characters and story lines.
3. Angel (1999-2004): Hello, this was going to make it on my list if Buffy was on. I loved this show until the very end, it was
n't Buffy and I never really liked the fact that she never made an appearance but whatever. It was clever and witty and well David Boreanaz. I think I have watched everything he's been in (hello: Bones and SEAL Team). But I digress...When James Masten’s Spike became a series regular it made it even more perfect.
4. Must See TV Thursdays: Yes, I am one of those people that remembers this iconic Thursday lineup of shows. Friends was at 8pm, followed by Will and Grace (or something else, this time slot changed a lot), then Seinfeld, then something to hold you over until 10pm when ER would come on. I think Mad About aired during one of those random time slots. I LIVED for Thursdays. And here is why:
Friends (1994-2004): What can I say, it’s Friends. I recently watched the entire series again and I laughed just as hard as I did the first time I watched it. The show is a classic. Ross and Rachel, Chandler and Monica, I mean who didn’t love them. Thr
ough in Joey and Phoebe and well it’s perfection. Who didn’t ask themselves which character you were most like. If you didn’t you’re a liar. Just kidding, but seriously, which character could you relate to more? I always fancied myself a Chandler but I could also a be a Monica. Anyway, this is one of those shows that if its’s on I'll watch it and if I have nothing else to watch, well there is always an episode of Friends playing somewhere. Can it BE anymore amazing?
Seinfeld (1989-1998): This show is special. I mean a show about nothing, who would’ve thought it would work? This is a hit or miss with a lot of people I know. It’s a total hit for me. My husband and I started watching it again because we needed to laugh and it was the only show we could agree on (we have different tastes). These 4 people are mean and terrible but I loved them. The ending of the series was so amazing, I mean just brilliant. So many things that happened on the show happens in real life. Who hasn’t caught themselves saying “Now that was like a Seinfeld episode”. Classic.
5. Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990-2000): Ok, I honestly don’t now how I was allowed to watch this show! So much sex, drinking, and drugs. I mean they were in high school. I’m not a prude by any means and I had my share of drinking in high school but I wasn’t having sex. For real, I was always the fat friend. I guess I was like Donna in a way. When Dylan and Brenda got together, talk about intense. Then there was Dylan and Kelly. I think 90210 paved the way for many similar shows we have today. You’re welcome Gossip Girl and The OC. And no one can replace Luke Perry. #RIP
6. Sex and the City (1998-2004): I could write entire blogs on this show. I started watching it a little later because we didn’t have cable growing up. It wasn’t until the last few seasons that we got HBO and it was only in my parent’s room. I bought the DVDs to catch up and boy did my life change. I loved Carrie’s narration and her writing. This show was on during the time of AOL and Instant Messenger (IM). I would change my away message on IM to a different quote from SATC every few weeks. Towards the end, I was a single girl out clubbing and hanging out on South Beach with my friends. We were 4 girls having fun and trying to meet that perfect guy, not unlike Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. We each had a little of them in all of us. It was amazing having a show like that to relate to. I mean our experiences were nothing like theirs but the struggles they went through, the people they became in the end, that’s what I mean. I watched “And Just Like That” hoping to relive a little of that magic from the original series but it just wasn’t the same. This show is special and if you knew me back then, you know why. Are you Team Big or Team Aiden?
