Nora Roberts’ Inheritance (The Lost Bride Trilogy 1)

If you’ve never ready any Nora Roberts, hop on over to Amazon, run to your nearest bookstore, or whatever medium you use for books. Trust me, you will thank me. I’ve read many of book series (sometimes more than once) and this book does not disappoint. It’s got murder, mystery, and even a haunted house! You guys know how much I love anything haunted or related to magic.

The book begins with a flashback to 1806 where we have Astrid Poole, who has just married her beloved Collin, sitting in her room in her wedding dress basking in total happiness. As she’s walking back to meet Collin, she’s murdered without having consummated their marriage. This part of the story is told in first person and its heart wrenching.

Fast forward to present time where we meet Sonya MacTavish, a graphic designer. She’s shocked to learn that her late father had a twin brother that he never knew about. The newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned plus an incredible Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine. The only stipulation? Is that she live in the house for three years. So with a recently broken engagement, Sonya sets off on a journey of discover as she tries to understand a whole side of her family.

When she arrives at the house, she’s met by a young (and handsome) lawyer, Trey. Sonya soon learns that the house is haunted as objects begin to move around the house and music starts playing out of nowhere. She also discovers a portrait of her father hanging in one of the room and as well as of a woman name Astrid, who is known as “the first lost bride”. It’s clear to Sonya she’s inherited far more than a haunted house. She’s inherited a centuries-old curse and needs to find a way to break it.

The only negative is that I didn’t realize how new this series is and now I need to wait until summer of 2024, I think, for the next one. Anyway, great book. Do yourself a favor and read it!
