Elvis

I’m doing my best to watch more movies. New ones, old ones, all genres. I used to pop in a DVD at any given moment and watch a movie or have it on in the background. I miss doing that. So, lately, after the kids go to bed, I pop on a movie. It could be one I’ve watched before or a new one. This week I watched the new Elvis movie on HBOMAX. I’m going to be transparent; I think Austin Butler is very handsome and I was drawn to the movie because of him.

When I first heard Butler was cast, I’m not going to lie I was like, “Huh? Really?”. Then I started to see pictures of him from the set. His dirty blonde hair dyed black only enhanced those blue eyes and those lips (I’m sorry Elvis!). My God if he didn’t embody Elvis in his own way. So, after the movie was released, I would see all these clips of him on social media and I was really impressed with how well he played the role and how he nailed those infamous moves. I don’t know a lot about Elvis’ life but if it was anything like it was portrayed in the movie, wow. And Tom Hanks’ Colonel Tom Parker amazing if not unnerving. The fat suit and the accent were horrifying. Again, if his portrayal was at all accurate, what a truly despicable human. It was also interesting to get some insight on his family live as well as his relationship with Priscila. Taking care of your loved ones can really be a burden and can allow you make decisions you would not normally make.

And of course, I cannot talk about this movie and not discuss the music. I’ve always been a fan of Elvis’ music, but get to see how his style evolved, how those famous moves came to life, what a treat. But this soundtrack, takes his music to another level. There was also mix of modern music, mixed in with gospel, even a few remixes. This is honestly one of my favorite soundtracks to date and it’s up there with “The Greatest Showman” (another amazing one!!). Butler’s renditions of “Baby, Let’s Play House” and “Hound Dog” are AMAZING. Honestly the whole album is worth listening to. The artists included are Kacey Musgraves, PNAU, Jack White, Maneskin, and Stevie Nicks to name a few.

Great film and amazing soundtrack, what else do you need for movie night at home?
